Northwood High School Choral Department has five choral ensembles.
Chamber Singers
Chamber Singers is NHS’s top SATB ensemble. Ranging from 23 – 40 singers, they perform at festivals and competitions throughout the country.
Viva Cantar
Viva Cantar is NHS’s top treble ensemble. This small group ensemble, which ranges from 16 – 20 members, performs in festivals throughout California. While Viva performs mostly SSA/SSAA repertoire, they combine with Chamber Singers to perform at NHS’s yearly Winter Gala.
Bel Canto
The first of NHS’s auditioned choirs, Bel Canto is an intermediate treble ensemble that frequently performs SSA pieces. Members of this choir develop their music literacy skills through performing more challenging repertoire. As an auditioned choir, Bel Canto participates in local festivals throughout the school year.
Concert Chorale
Concert Chorale is NHS’s intermediate SATB ensemble. Members of this ensemble will continue to develop their musicianship skills through performing more challenging SATB repertoire. As an auditioned ensemble, Concert Chorale may participate in local festivals throughout the year.
Treble Clef
Treble Clef is one of NHS’s two non-auditioned choirs. As part of this choir, students learn the foundations of music and sightreading as well as beginning performance techniques. The group performs SA and/or SSA music but also combines with Bass Clef to perform one or two SAB or SATB pieces.
Bass Clef
Bass Clef one of NHS’s two non-auditioned choirs. As part of this choir, students learn the foundations of music and sightreading as well as beginning performance techniques. The group performs mostly TB and/or TBB music but also combines with Treble Clef to perform one or two SAB or SATB pieces.
