Keiko Halop
Northwood high school’s founding pianist and vocal coach, Keiko Halop has performed nationally and internationally as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician and soloist for over thirty years. Demonstrating a versatility and virtuosity in multiple styles and genres, she has garnered seven Grammy Awards with her work at Northwood High. Keiko made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2004 joining soprano Adina Aaron, with whom she has collaborated since 1997. Keiko’s collaboration with the chamber ensemble I Musici de Montreal and renowned clarinetist, Charles Neidich under the direction of Yuli Turovsky, was acclaimed “a virtually ideal performance” (LA Times).
Active as a vocal and instrumental coach for musicians from students to professionals, Keiko’s students have gone on to win major awards including the Metropolitan Opera and other numerous prestigious national and international competitions including the Monte Carlo Music Masters. Keiko’s students have been performing with distinction all over the world.
Originally from Japan, Keiko holds double Bachelors degrees in English and Music from Pacific University in Oregon, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. She has studied with Florence Chino, Edward Cumming, Rosemary Hyler Ritter, Nina Scolnik, Gayle Smith, James Newton and Nina Hinson. She has received multiple fellowships to study with notable pianists include Lorin Hollander, Allan Smith, Martin Katz and Graham Johnson.
